Instagram’s BIG Update

Instagram’s BIG Update

There’s some pretty big news in the world of social today. Instagram has released an update (7.5) that allows users to post photos and videos outside the square constraints. While Instagram was once known for its 1:1 ratio, they cite the change as an effort to allow user images to come first.

To post in alternative formats on iPhones, simply upload your photo to the app as you normally would and pinch (draw two fingers inward). You can also easily create a collage using Instagram’s Layout app, which allows you to edit individual photos within the collage much like you do in the Instagram app itself.

What does this mean for Instagram users? Non-square formats will likely become less and less common than they currently are because users won’t have to use outside apps and screenshots to get a portrait or landscape image. The kinds of images and content you now upload requires far less customization to function on the Instagram platform.

We love social media for its constant change, and we look forward to the new challenges and opportunities this update brings.
