How to Use the Same Photoshoot for Months
If you are going to put all the time and effort it takes into doing a photoshoot, you want to make sure it’s worth it. Am I right?! I mean, we all have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyonce.
As a small business we understand that both time and budget might not be an option for multiple photoshoots, so we’ve come up with ways to get the most out of a single photo so you can use that content for months!
It all starts with a good plan. When preparing for your photoshoot here are some things to keep in mind:
Give it props. Think of props that could really change up the look of the photo, but that can be easily switched out. This could be something as simple as using a wood board underneath or in the background and switching it out for a marble cutting board or coaster. Incorporating different shapes can also quickly change the look of the photo. You can also tie in different greenery or other items that tie in with what you are shooting. Our client Daisy Blue Naturals does a great job utilizing different props and textures:
Location, location, location. When setting up your photoshoot, do your research. If it isn’t in a studio where backdrops are interchangeable, is it in a location with a lot of unique elements that could make for different backdrops?
Wear it out. If you or a person are the focus of the shoot, bring multiple outfits that can really switch up the look and the feel. Make sure they are key pieces that can be easily switched out. You can even plan for easy hairstyle switches too, just make sure you have what you need to complete the look fast to make the most of your time.
All about those angles. Make sure to take the same shot at different angles. Get in close, take some far away, some from above, etc. This will go from what would have typically been one shot, to multiple options for you to use. Make sure to also take behind the scene shots yourself and also some video and boomerrangs.
Once the photoshoot is complete and you have a portfolio of gorgeous and aw-inspiring photos, here are some tips that you can execute to use them for months:
Mix it up. If you batch your content make sure to pay extra attention to posts that will be next to each other in your feed. You don’t want the same photo or even a similar photo right next to each other. This is where you can incorporate some stock photo from free resources like Reshot or Unsplash, you can even incorporate some branded content that you create in a program like Canva.
DIY. Find a place at your home or business that is a neutral and consistent backdrop, this could be a brick wall or garage door. Use these areas to shoot in-the-moment photos easily to fill in between your photoshoot posts. The different perspective will give the content on your feed or in your campaign depth. For example, this can easily be accomplished using portrait mode on an iPhone and an affordable tri-pod or a steady-handed friend. A great example of this are these shots from the one and only Rachel Hollis:
Video and Views. Another unique way to utilize your photoshoot is to incorporate some of those behind-the-scene shots you took and short video clips. Videos perform extremely well and the movement within your content will give it life.
Crop top. Don’t be afraid to take those photos from your photoshoot and crop out a certain aspect or rotate for a different angle. This is great to do if there is something you want to focus on in a single photo. But don’t forget to ALWAYS save the original file first, and then make a copy to edit.
And remember, every picture tells a story, what’s yours?
